30Kbps–50Mbps Industrial SFP+ Optical Transceiver Module | RS232 / RS485 / RS422 Fiber Communication

The GIGAC 30Kbps–50Mbps industrial SFP+ optical transceiver is designed for reliable serial fiber communication in industrial control systems.

Supporting RS232, RS485, and RS422 transmission, it provides stable optical links with LC duplex interface over distances up to 60km. With an extended temperature range of −40°C to +85°C, low EMI design, and enhanced ESD protection, it is ideal for industrial automation, power communication, railway signaling, and remote monitoring.

Products Description

The GIGAC low-speed industrial SFP+ optical transceiver module is specifically designed for 30Kbps to 50Mbps optical communication in industrial control and serial data transmission systems. Unlike standard high-speed networking transceivers, this series is optimized for the low-speed data links commonly found in industrial field equipment, SCADA networks, and serial communication infrastructure.

The module supports RS232, RS485, and RS422 fiber communication, extending transmission distances well beyond the limits of copper cabling while significantly improving signal integrity in electrically noisy environments. Built in a standard SFP+ form factor with LC duplex optical interface, it integrates seamlessly into industrial Ethernet switches, serial-to-fiber converters, industrial gateways, and communication terminals.

Technical Advantages

Optimized for Low-Speed Industrial Communication

This series is specifically engineered for low-speed data communication applications where stable, continuous connectivity matters more than raw bandwidth. It is well suited for industrial control links, serial data transmission, and legacy protocol conversion where signal reliability is the primary design requirement.

Flexible Fiber Link Options

The module family provides multiple transmission distance configurations — 2km, 10km, 20km, 40km, and 60km — across three wavelength options (850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm). This gives system integrators the flexibility to select the optimal combination of distance, fiber type, and optical budget for each deployment scenario.

Industrial-Grade Reliability

With an operating temperature range of −40°C to +85°C, the module is built for deployment in factory floors, outdoor cabinets, power distribution environments, and other harsh industrial conditions where temperature extremes and vibration are routine.

Strong Anti-Interference Capability

Low EMI design and enhanced ESD protection ensure stable communication performance in environments with strong electromagnetic interference. This makes the module particularly suitable for power systems, railway signaling, and industrial automation installations where electrical noise is a constant challenge.

Energy-Efficient Operation

With power consumption under 1.2W on a single +3.3V supply, the module minimizes thermal load in dense equipment racks and supports energy-conscious system designs without compromising link performance.

Typical Applications

• Low-speed fiber transmission systems (30Kbps–50Mbps) for industrial data links

• RS232 / RS485 / RS422 serial-to-fiber conversion for extended-distance industrial communication

• Industrial automation and control networks (PLC, DCS, SCADA)

• Power communication and distribution automation systems

• Railway and transit signaling and control systems

• Remote monitoring and telemetry / data acquisition systems

• Highway, tunnel, and utility corridor communication backbone

• Border and perimeter security monitoring networks

Compatibility & Industrial Use:

The module uses a standard SFP+ form factor and is compatible with industrial communication equipment that supports SFP+ optical interfaces, including managed industrial Ethernet switches, fiber communication terminals, serial-to-fiber converters, industrial controllers and gateways, and remote I/O and monitoring devices.

The LC duplex connector ensures straightforward integration with existing multimode (50/125µm) and single-mode (9/125µm) fiber infrastructure. As a physical-layer optical transceiver, actual protocol compatibility depends on the host platform. Compatibility verification is recommended before project deployment.

FAQ:

Q: What is a low-speed SFP+ optical transceiver?

A low-speed SFP+ optical transceiver is an optical module designed for data rates between 30Kbps and 50Mbps, used primarily in industrial control systems and serial communication networks. Unlike standard SFP+ modules designed for 10Gbps Ethernet, low-speed modules are optimized for reliable, continuous data links in SCADA, telemetry, and RS232/RS485/RS422 serial-to-fiber applications.

Q: What protocols does this module support?

This module provides transparent physical-layer fiber transmission and is commonly used with RS232, RS485, RS422, and low-speed Ethernet protocols. Actual protocol support depends on the host equipment and system configuration.

Q: What transmission distances are available?

The module family offers five distance options: 2km over multimode fiber (850nm), and 10km, 20km, 40km, or 60km over single-mode fiber (1310nm or 1550nm). This allows system integrators to select the optimal configuration for each project requirement.

Q: Is this module suitable for harsh industrial environments?

Yes. The module supports an industrial operating temperature range of −40°C to +85°C and features low EMI design with enhanced ESD protection. It is designed for deployment in factory environments, outdoor cabinets, power systems, and other demanding industrial conditions.

Q: Can this module be used as a drop-in replacement for similar industrial SFP+ modules?

The module uses a standard SFP+ form factor with LC duplex interface and +3.3V power supply, making it mechanically and electrically compatible with most industrial SFP+ slots. However, we recommend verifying interface compatibility and link budget with your specific host equipment before deployment. Sample testing is available upon request.
