155M BiDi 1×9 Optical Transceiver | Single-Fiber SC/FC/ST

155M BiDi 1×9 Optical Transceiver Module enables 155Mbps bidirectional fiber communication over a single strand of single-mode fiber using WDM technology.

With SC/FC/ST and pigtail interface options, selectable 3.3V/5V power supply, and transmission distances from 20km to 120km, it supports Fast Ethernet, Fiber Channel, and SONET/SDH applications. Available in commercial (0°C) and industrial (–40°C to +85°C) temperature grades.

Products Description

155M BiDi 1×9 Optical Transceiver Module is a single-fiber bidirectional 155Mbps fiber transceiver in a compact 1×9 pin-package format. Using WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology, it simultaneously transmits and receives 155Mbps data on a single optical fiber strand by assigning TX and RX to different wavelengths, reducing fiber infrastructure requirements by 50%.

The module supports four wavelength pair configurations — 1310nm/1550nm, 1550nm/1310nm, 1490nm/1550nm, and 1550nm/1490nm — enabling system designers to select complementary pairs for each link end. Transmission distances range from 20km to 120km over 9/125µm single-mode fiber, making it suitable for metro, campus, and long-haul fiber infrastructure.

SC, FC, ST, and pigtail interface options provide compatibility with diverse fiber plant configurations. Selectable +3.3V or +5.0V power supply accommodates both modern and legacy board designs. LVPECL signal input and LVTTL/LVPECL signal detection output ensure broad compatibility with standard fast Ethernet, Fiber Channel, and SONET/SDH equipment. Commercial (0°C to +70°C) and Industrial (–40°C to +85°C) temperature grades are available.

Technical Advantages

Single-Fiber BiDi — 50% Fiber Infrastructure Savings

By transmitting and receiving on a single optical fiber using different wavelengths, BiDi technology eliminates the need for a fiber pair on every link. In metro access networks, campus inter-building runs, and long-haul deployments, this halves the fiber count, reducing patch panel ports, splice enclosures, and fiber procurement costs proportionally.

120km Maximum Distance — Longest-Reach 155M BiDi 1×9

The 1490nm/1550nm and 1550nm/1490nm wavelength pair variants extend reach to 100km and 120km over single-mode fiber — among the longest distances available in a 1×9 BiDi 155M module. This enables fiber-based 155Mbps links across metropolitan rings and rural long-haul spans without optical amplification.

Dual Power Supply: 3.3V and 5.0V

Selectable 3.3V or 5.0V operation makes the module compatible with both modern low-power board designs and legacy 5V industrial control systems without requiring voltage regulation circuitry on the host board.

Metal SC/FC/ST Interface — Field Durability

Metal SC, FC, and ST connectors (versus plastic connectors on some competing modules) provide greater mechanical durability, better connector retention force, and improved resistance to vibration-induced loosening — important in industrial and outdoor equipment enclosure environments.

LVPECL/LVTTL Logic — Broad Equipment Compatibility

LVPECL signal input with LVTTL/LVPECL signal detect output covers the logic families used across Fast Ethernet PHYs, Fiber Channel HBAs, SONET/SDH framers, and industrial serial interfaces, enabling direct integration without external logic level converters.

!

IMPORTANT — BiDi modules must be ordered and deployed as   complementary wavelength pairs. TX 1310nm at one end requires TX 1550nm (RX   1310nm) at the far end, and vice versa. Similarly for 1490nm/1550nm pairs.   Verify wavelength assignments at both link ends before placing your order.   Mismatched pairs produce no link.

Typical Applications

Fast Ethernet (100BASE-FX) access and campus fiber links

SONET/SDH STM-1 / OC-3 fiber transmission at 155Mbps

Fiber Channel storage area network (SAN) fiber links

Metro access and aggregation network single-fiber runs

 Long-haul 155Mbps fiber links up to 120km

Other 155Mbps fiber communication systems requiring BiDi single-fiber operation

Compatibility and Deployment

This module is designed for seamless integration into legacy 1×9 transceiver systems and is ideal for maintenance, upgrade, and replacement of existing fiber links.

BiDi Deployment Notice

BiDi modules must be used in complementary pairs:

  • TX 1310nm ↔ RX 1310nm

  • TX 1550nm ↔ RX 1550nm

Example:
1310/1550nm module must pair with 1550/1310nm module

⚠️ Mismatched wavelength pairs will result in link failure.

 FAQ Module

Q: What is a 155M BiDi 1×9 optical transceiver?

A: A 155M BiDi 1×9 transceiver is a 155Mbps fiber optic module in a through-hole 1×9 pin package that uses WDM bidirectional (BiDi) technology to transmit and receive simultaneously on a single optical fiber strand. By using two different wavelengths for TX and RX, it enables full-duplex 155Mbps communication over one fiber instead of two.

Q: How far can the 155M BiDi 1×9 module transmit?

A: Depending on the model: 20km, 40km, and 60km for 1310nm/1550nm wavelength pairs; 60km, 80km, 100km, and 120km for 1490nm/1550nm wavelength pairs — all over 9/125µm single-mode fiber. The 120km variant is among the longest-reach options available for 155M BiDi 1×9 modules.

Q: Do BiDi modules need to be ordered in matched pairs?

A: Yes. Every BiDi fiber link requires two complementary modules — one at each end. The TX wavelength of the near-end module must equal the RX wavelength of the far-end module. For example, a TX 1310nm / RX 1550nm module must be paired with a TX 1550nm / RX 1310nm module. Mismatched wavelength pairs will not establish a link.

Q: What applications is this module designed for?

A: The 155M BiDi 1×9 module is designed for Fast Ethernet (100BASE-FX), SONET/SDH STM-1/OC-3, Fiber Channel SAN links, and other 155Mbps fiber communication systems. It is particularly suited for metro access, campus inter-building runs, and long-haul single-fiber deployments up to 120km.

Q: What power supply voltages are supported?

A: Both +3.3V and +5.0V single power supplies are supported. The voltage variant is specified in the part number code (N = 3.3V, L = 5.0V). This dual-voltage support makes the module compatible with modern low-power designs and legacy 5V industrial control boards.

Q: What temperature grades are available?

A: Commercial grade (C): 0°C to +70°C for controlled equipment room and indoor environments. Industrial grade (I): –40°C to +85°C for outdoor cabinets, industrial enclosures, and deployments subject to wide temperature variation. Specify the grade in the part number at order time.

Ordering Information

BiDi modules must be ordered in complementary wavelength pairs — one at each end of the fiber link. Select distance, wavelength pair, power supply, temperature grade, and interface type.
