Detailed Product Description
Product Overview
The GIGAC SFF 2×10 Single/Dual Fiber Flexible Output Digital Optical Transceiver is a compact SFF (Small Form Factor) module series utilizing a 2×10 pin (20-pin dual-row) through-hole package. It is designed to address multi-rate optical link requirements in ATM, SDH (ITU-T), and SONET (Bellcore/ANSI) network equipment, supporting data rates from STM-1 (155Mbps) through STM-16 (2.5Gbps).
The series offers both single-fiber (simplex) and dual-fiber (duplex) configurations, providing flexibility to match either existing single-fiber infrastructure or conventional dual-fiber duplex link deployments. Wavelength options include 850nm for multimode short-reach, 1310nm for multimode extended-reach and single-mode short-to-medium haul, 1550nm for long-haul single-mode links up to 80km, and CWDM wavelengths for wavelength-multiplexed fiber deployments.
The flexible output design supports multiple host interface standards, enabling the same module to be integrated into diverse equipment platforms without output signal reformatting. Both commercial (0°C to +70°C) and industrial (–40°C to +85°C) temperature grades are available, with SC, LC, ST, and FC connector interface options to match existing fiber plant infrastructure.

Technical Advantages
Multi-Rate in One Module Series — Simplified Inventory
Rather than stocking separate modules for each SDH/SONET data rate, the SFF 2×10 series covers STM-1 through STM-16 with a consistent 2×10 through-hole package across all variants. This significantly simplifies OEM equipment manufacturers' optical component inventory management — particularly for platforms that must support multiple line rates in the same equipment chassis.
Single-Fiber and Dual-Fiber in One Catalog
The series offers both simplex (single-fiber) and duplex (dual-fiber) configurations within the same product family. Single-fiber variants reduce fiber infrastructure by 50% per link using WDM bidirectional transmission, while dual-fiber variants provide standard duplex connectivity compatible with conventional fiber plant infrastructure. Equipment designers can select the appropriate topology without switching module families or qualification processes.
Flexible Output for Multi-Platform Integration
The flexible digital output design eliminates the need for output signal reformatting circuitry between the optical module and the host equipment's serializer/deserializer (SERDES). This reduces circuit complexity, board space, and component count in OEM equipment designs that must integrate across multiple host platforms.
80km Single-Mode Reach — SDH Long-Haul Coverage
1550nm single-mode models achieve up to 80km transmission distance — sufficient for SDH/SONET STM-16 long-haul metro spans and inter-office OC-48 optical sections. Combined with CWDM wavelength variants, the series supports wavelength-multiplexed deployments on existing single-mode fiber infrastructure without dedicated DWDM equipment.
Industrial Temperature Grade for Harsh Environments
Industrial grade models (–40°C to +85°C) extend the operating envelope beyond standard commercial equipment room conditions, enabling deployment in outdoor shelters, industrial control cabinets, transit system equipment rooms, and other environments where temperature excursions exceed +70°C.
! | Note: Single-fiber (S) and dual-fiber (D) models use different physical configurations. Confirm the fiber topology (simplex or duplex) and connector type (SC/LC/ST/FC) when ordering. For single-fiber BiDi models, verify TX/RX wavelength pairing at both ends before ordering. Full part number decode available from our technical team. |

Compatibility and Deployment
The SFF 2×10 module mounts via through-hole pins directly on the host PCB. SC/LC/ST/FC optical interface options accommodate all standard fiber patch cord types. Flexible digital output is compatible with standard SDH/SONET SERDES front-ends.
